This is Melodie's own writing along with pictures by Judith Williams Sandoval(text added by Melodie)
Once upon a floor, there was a time when
in amongths the heaping piles of personal belongings
there was a brown Merino Sweater.
And every time Melodie would be rummaging
and come across it, Melodie would feel:
"You are my very favorite Brown Sweater,
of all my brown sweaters, because my girlfriend
[who I've known since I was eight] gave you to me."
And once upon a Brown Merino Sweater....
.... there was a moth. And then another moth. And then another moth.
Who, doing what moths do, made sure there were a few holes,
impossible to miss.
Many many life times ago.... [well in moth years anyway]
a small crew of people helped Melodie sort and box up
some of the heaping piles of personal belongings,
and lug the clothing to a lawndrea mat.
Even though Melodie paid extra to sort out the woolens
to be washed separately,
Sadly, finding this not to be so, Melodie, feeling betrayed
hurt, discouraged, it was too much for Melodie
to bare seeing so many items ruined
So it was many many years [well in month years anyway]
before Melodie could bring herself
to look thru the bags of cleaned personal belongings.
Until......
Once upon a street,
there was a neighbor who, while packing to move,
must have made a last minute decision
to leave a sewing machine sitting on the sidewalk.
On that very same day when Melodie
returned to her apartment building,
seeing the abandoned sewing machine
and not having one of her own,
could not resist bringing it into
her already crowded apartment
to see if it worked.
Sure enough it did.
And once upon a place there were some strangers
who over a lifetime [well in moth years anyway]
became friends.
Melodie was so happy with her Brown Merino Wool Sweater as a hat,
she wondered if it were her imagination that it turned out so good.
So she confided in her new friend, & asked if
Barbara would be caught dead in a hat like that.
Barbara assured Melodie that, if Barbara had a hat like that,
she would most definitely wear it.
So Melodie said, "What colors would you want it to be?"
and promptly set about to make Barbara a Black Wool Sweater hat,
with brown & beige too.
One day, before Barbara's Black Wool Sweater hat was finished,
another new friend, Denise, confided in Melodie
that she would very much like a hat like that, asking;
"Where did you get your hat?" Upon explaining to Denise
that Melodie herself had made it from her poor shrunken Brown
Merino Wool Sweater, Melodie made sure to find out what colors Denise
would like her hat to be, and promptly set about
to make Denise a Navy Blue hat that looked like a "snood."
Because Melodie would miss her friends,
as well as the wool sweater reincarnated hats,
Melodie asked Judith -who said 'yes' of course-
if she would take photographs of the hats.
And so they did.
The End . . . . . . . Epiphat: (epitaph)
and it was thought by some that the reincarnated Brown Merino Wool Sweater lived with Melodie "Hattery Ever After".
